On April 3, the Senate confirmed President Trump’s nominee to head the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Dr. Mehmet Oz. The party-line vote was 53 to 45.
Dr. Oz has declined to say he would oppose the currently-under-discussion cuts to Medicaid, one of the hottest of the controversial topics Congress is grappling with in the budget reconciliation process. But did say he would support cuts arising from rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse.
Prospects: Dr. Oz will wield considerable influence over CMS decision-making and on Congress’ reaction to it. Among the rulemaking topics of concern to NAIFA members is the agency’s rulemaking on compensation for advice on whether and how to purchase Affordable Care Act (ACA), Medicare and Medicaid health care coverage.
