NAIFA-Iowa recently held a successful combined in-person/virtual state conference, Sept. 9-11 in Cedar Falls. The program highlighted each point of NAIFA’s membership promise – Advocate, Educate, Differentiate – but the focus turned squarely to advocacy during the Thursday keynote presentation by state Insurance Commissioner Doug Ommen and the Friday Newell C. Day Awards Breakfast keynote address by Sen. Chuck Grassley.

The top priorities for NAIFA-Iowa’s 2020 advocacy efforts include:

  • Supporting legislative measures to empower insurance and financial professionals to protect their senior clients against exploitation and fraud.
  • Promoting Iowans’ retirement planning choice, including further expanding retirement plan options for teachers and other state education system employees.
  • Protecting health care choices by improving the affordability and sustainability of private-market health insurance and improving consumer access to licensed professional insurance agents.
  • Supporting a standard of care requiring financial professionals to look out for the best interests of their clients, without creating undue barriers and restrictions that would limit consumer choices and prevent Main Street Iowans from getting needed products, services and guidance.
  • Promoting financial literacy to encourage financial security for al Iowans.

NAIFA Advocacy, embodied in its new “The Power of You. The Power of Us.” campaign, has become more critical than ever. NAIFA is the only association for insurance and financial advisors that works for producers and their clients on the federal, state and interstate levels.
