On May 19 some 600 insurance and financial advisors met with Senators, Members of the House of Representatives, and/or their key staffers as part of NAIFA’s annual Congressional Conference. Of key importance, these meetings enable constituents to establish and/or grow relationships with their elected representatives.
Three important, but fairly narrow, issues were discussed—a pension simplification rule, a long-term care education bill, and an SEC rule regarding advisor pay. NAIFA supports all three bills, and meeting participants asked their lawmakers to likewise support them.
Prospects: Those meetings and discussions either laid the foundation for further interaction—even more important when broader issues are in play and there is stiff competition for lawmakers’ time and attention—or grew those relationships where the foundation already exists.
