The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee announced it will hold a hearing on the confirmation of Janet Dhillon to serve as Pension Benefits Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) Director. The hearing is set for May 15.
Currently, Dhillon serves as senior counselor in the Solicitor General’s office at the Department of Labor (DOL). She has held that position since March of this year. She has also served as chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and as an EEOC commissioner. Prior to her EEOC service, Dhillon served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Burlington Stores, Inc. Before that she was Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of J.C. Penney Company, Inc., and before that, she was Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of U.S. Airways Group, Inc. Dhillon received her B.A. from Occidental College and her J.D. from UCLA School of Law.
Prospects: It appears likely at this point that Dhillon will sail through her confirmation hearing with little difficulty, although there could be surprises. The HELP Committee is likely to favorably report her nomination to the full Senate, which is likely to confirm her.
