Advocacy in action blog

NAIFA Trustee Christopher Gandy, LACP, loyal member since 2003 and Founder of Midwest Legacy Group, is participating in a panel discussion at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) 2022 Insurance Summit. The session, “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Producer Licensing,” is exploring how regulators and the insurance industry are addressing DEI issues in the distribution of insurance through pre-licensing and licensing exam procedures.

Also featured on the panel are Evelyn Boswell, Director of DE&I, NAIC; Lorie Gasior, Insurance Manager, Producer Licensing, Louisiana DOI; Jimmy Gunn, Deputy Commissioner, Alabama DOI; Ian Trepanier, Policy Analyst, ACLI; Tim Mullen, Director, Market Regulation, NAIC; and James Dean, CEO, JD Financial Group and Associates Inc.

NAIFA works with the NAIC and other interstate advocacy groups to create and advance model rules and regulations and explore policy areas that impact insurance and financial services. Gandy previously addressed a meeting of the NAIC’s Special Committee on Race and Insurance about the industry’s need for greater diversity in the ranks of insurance and financial services professionals to reach underserved communities. An established thought leader in the industry, he was also a cohost and presented at NAIFA’s Diversity Symposium earlier this year.
