NAIFA-Texas Executive Director Shawn Talbot placed a letter to the editor in the Austin Statesman urging the state’s senators, Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, to support passage of the SECURE act. The legislation would help small businesses give more employees access to workplace retirement plans and give workers greater flexibility and more options when it comes to saving for retirement.
The bill has already passed the House of Representatives but its progress has slowed in the Senate, where Sen. Cruz and several of his colleagues have raised concerns or objects about a part of the bill dealing with 529 education savings plans.
NAIFA is working with the American Council of Life Insurers and other organizations to encourage the bill’s passage.
