Advocacy in action blog

NAIFA President-Elect Christopher Gandy spoke before the Senior Issues (B) Task Force during the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ 2025 Fall National Meeting in Hollywood, Fla. Gandy discussed hybrid life insurance policies with long-term care, extended care, and critical care riders, providing his perspective as an agent to the Task Force. Gandy provided insight on what he’s seeing in the market and offered suggestions to regulators to ensure the products remain accessible and easily understandable to consumers.

Among other things, Gandy suggested that regulators could create a model template for companies and agents to use that clearly outlines the differences and similarities between various policy riders. Gandy emphasized that clear communication and trusted financial guidance is key to ensuring consumers have the resources they need to make the best decisions for their retirement needs.

NAIFA has a strong working relationship with interstate organizations like the NAIC and helps shape model legislation and regulations before they are presented for consideration by state policymakers. NAIFA professional staff and leaders regularly participate in NAIC meetings and hearings to provide expertise and real-world experience, and ensure that the commissioners hear the voice of the agent community.
